THE ISSUE
A persistent lack of medical information underlies both the inability to assess causality in adverse drug reactions and vaccine side effects, and the long years often required to diagnose intractable and rare diseases.
ADVERSE DRUG REACTIONS
6,983 reports
As of December FY2024, 6,983 suspected adverse reactions with fatal outcomes had been reported. In 74% of cases, causality could not be assessed, partly due to insufficient information.

At the end of FY2022, approximately 1.04 million people were receiving assistance for designated intractable diseases. Better data infrastructure is needed to connect care with research.
